Who We Are: A Close Look at YesLetter
YesLetter was founded in 2002 by undergraduate
students at Princeton University. The founders were soon joined
by an additional owner, an undergraduate at the Wharton Business
School of the University of Pennsylvania. The YesLetter staff
now spans the entire Ivy League and a number of other top-tier
undergraduate institutions, constituting the most comprehensive
student college consulting network on the internet.
YesLetter partners also include college counseling
professionals with extensive experience in college admissions
counseling, standardized graders both currently and previously
employed by major national testing organizations and respected
faculty members at top-tier institutions.
YesLetter is in no way associated with any college,
university or other academic institution. We are also in no
way associated with any company responsible for administering
standardized tests, such as the College Board or ETS. The names
of institutions, tests and other privately-managed entities
mentioned on this site are the trademarks of their respective
companies and organizations.
Why We're Here: The YesLetter Mission Statement
This mission statement was originally written
in 2002 as a part of the original YesLetter business plan.
It hangs above the desk of every YesLetter partner.
YesLetter.com is a privately-owned web content
provider designed to provide eager college-bound high school
students and their parents certain college-related information
that may otherwise be very difficult to acquire. By making
such information more easily accessible to the common college
applicant, YesLetter.com strives to promote a level playing
field in the college applications process and to minimize
the advantage of those applicants who are willing to pay thousands
of dollars to college counseling services that help to secure
college enrollment.
Such a purpose, however, comes with a significant
amount of responsibility. For many students, the college admissions
process is the culmination of their hard work and dedication
over the past several years. Attempts to change or improve
the way students perceive the process, therefore, can have
a radical impact on the lives of countless applicants and
their families, along with the internal operations of college
admissions offices across the world.
Therefore, YesLetter.com abides by the following
ethical code: The small pool of applicants who are willing
to pay unreasonable amounts of money for application coaching
currently hold an unfair advantage in the admissions process
due to their access to insider information and experienced
admissions professionals. It is the goal of this company to
minimize that advantage by making public the information and
ideas that coaching services use to give their applicants
leverage in the admissions process. Such information shall
never be intended to defame or demean any of the institutions
that it concerns, however, it will always be accurate and
promote the overall idea that students of equal merit always
deserve an equal opportunity to be admitted to the college
of their choice. In reviewing, ranking or describing certain
colleges, no preference whatsoever will be given to any institution
as a result of an employee or director’s enrollment
in any school.
